National Minimum Wage
National Minimum Wage. The nation's Minimum Wage will increase again in October 2005. The governing body has just answered to the suggestions made in the Low Pay Commission's 2005 Report on the nation's Minimum Wage.
The govt. have accepted.
The adult rate of the minimum wage ( for employees aged twenty-two and over ) will increase from its present hourly rate of £4.85 to £5.05 in October 2005, and to £5.35 in October 2006. The 2006 increase is subject to confirmation by the Commission in Feb 2006, to check the business conditions carry on making it suitable. The development rate ( for employees aged 18-21 inclusive ) will increase from the present hourly rate of £4.10 to £4.25 in October 2005 and £4.45 in October 2006. NB : The development rate can also apply to employees aged twenty-two and above during their first six months in a new job with a new employer and who are receiving licensed coaching. The govt should invite the Low Pay Commission to check the operation of the 16-17 year old rate of £3 an hour and to report in Feb 2006, with suggestions for any successive increases. Sixteen and seventeen year olds rate the govt. accepted the Low Pay Commission's suggestions for a new rate for sixteen and seventeen year olds ( above mandatory college leaving age ) * in their 2004 report. £3.00 an hour from one October 2004 NB : sixteen and seventeen years old apprentices are immune from the young workers rate.
*Compulsory College Age In Britain and Wales : somebody is now not of compulsory college age after the last Friday of June of the high-school year in which their 16th birthday happens. In Northerly Eire : an individual is not of mandatory college age after the 30th June of the highschool year in which their 16th birthday happens. In Scotland : pupils whose 16th birthday falls between first March and 30th Sep may not leave before the 31st May of that year. Pupils aged sixteen on or between October 1st and the final day of Feb may not leave till the beginning of the Xmas vacations in that college year.
